Film Screening and Oregon Wine History
August 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us for an evening of wine and film. In The Promise, take a trip to the historic grape growing region of Rogljevo, Serbia. After the movie, local winemaker Doyle Hinman will chat about Oregon wine history. Suggested Donation of $5. This event is made possible by the Eugene International Film Festival.
More about The Promise: Cyrille and Estelle Bongiraud, a prominent French winemaking couple, have made an impassioned commitment to restoring the Rogljevo region to its glory of past centuries. Cyrille has led his effort with Obecanje, a wine from the Gamary petits grains grape. Its name means “The Promise” in Serbian. So important was wine from some 300 cellars in Rogljeco to French wine connoisseurs, that a railroad was constructed between that village and Bordeaux during the reign of Napoleon III. Rogljevo is now nearly deserted, inhabited by aging grape growers. This is a terrific film about culture and community. Cyrille is a vineyard site specialist who has also studied vineyard soils for somme of Oregon’s top wine grape growers. The Promise is a a film by Serbian Producer/Director Zeljko Mirkovic.
